Having participated in a number of WomenEd NI events in recent years to celebrate International Women’s Day, where one of the recurrent themes and messages for women in education and female leaders was to encourage everyone to be ‘10% braver’, this is my delayed response to that rallying call! So I’m starting this blog and will bravely set out my thoughts, reflections and note some other ideas worthy of my comment.

With over 30 years working in education and now in my third principalship, I hope you would agree I have plenty to say! And some of it hopefully worthy of note and reflection.

During times of economic, political and social challenge, it can be tempting to be negative, despondent or even cynical. My blog won’t be a place for this. I want to focus on thoughts and ideas to inspire, energise and create momentum. I hope it becomes a place to exchange opinions and experiences with the ultimate goal of encouraging all of us working in education to bring all our gifts and talents along with the best versions of ourselves to the table to benefit all our young people. In doing so, I also hope to encourage us all to identify, create, encourage and develop the best teachers and educational leaders of the future.
